There are many photographs in the CNU Library Archives of people whose identities are unknown to the Library personnel. Archives Assistant Christina Luers has asked for our help in identifying these people, so from time to time we will post some of these pictures here, beginning with the eight below of the 1975 Homecoming Court taken in Ratcliffe Gymnasium. More photos from this group will be posted later.
If you recognize anyone shown, please contact Dr. Chambers atcncmemories61_71@yahoo.com or 757-238-9629. Please also share these pictures with others--classmates, friends, relatives, neighbors--by sending them our website link:www.cncdecaders.com. You can also copy and paste the photos to send them by email. Please identify each person by PHOTO number plus M or F number.
PHOTO 1 (L):The gentleman in the middle is James C. (Jim) Windsor, CNC's President then. Who are F 1 (L) and M 1 (R)? By studying other photos in this group, Miss Marple believes that F 1 is the previous (1974) Homecoming Queen, who is also in Photo 3. By comparing clothing and hair, she thinks that gentleman M 1 is also the man in Photo 2. He might be the 1974 Homecoming King or someone involved in overseeing the event, such as the SGA President.
PHOTO 2 (R): Here we see the face of M 1 (L), who appears to be consulting backstage with F 2, one of the female contestants. She is one of at least four cheerleaders who were competing for the title of Homecoming Queen. Ladies contesting for Queen of course wore corsages; gentlemen vying for King naturally wore boutonnières.
PHOTO 3 (L): The 1975 Homecoming Queen, F 3 (L), shows her excitement as the 1974 Queen, F 1 (R) begins to remove her crown to give it to her. The basketball player, M 2, shows no emotion, although Miss Marple knows from other photographs that he is the lady's escort. He is also one of at least four basketball players vying for the title Homecoming King (note the boutonnière). Perhaps he has just learned he lost.
PHOTO 4 (R): Here are the winners: the 1975 Homecoming Queen (F 3) and King (M 3). They appear in a number of other photographs in this group of 24 pictures. But who are they?
These remaining photos show some of the other contestants, along with their escorts or dates. These pictures seem to have been taken in a hallway just before the couples entered Ratcliffe Gymnasium.
PHOTO 5 (L): Entering Ratcliffe through the doorway are Queen contestant F 4 and her escort, M 4. Miss Marple notes that the lady, however lovely, has lost control of her tresses.
PHOTO 6 (R): Ready to enter the gymnasium are Queen contestant F 5 , sporting the then-popular Afro hair style, and her escort, M 5. The couple behind them, F 6 and M 6, are the subject of Photo 7. The bearded fellow on the left, M 7, is in several of the hallway photos and seems to be the caretaker of the lineup rather than a contestant or escort.
PHOTO 7 (L) Female contestant F 8 apparently suffered some mishap before Homecoming. Miss Marple hopes she recovered satisfactorily. Her escort, M 8, otherwise a handsome fellow, seems to have been the only gentleman who did not wear a shirt and tie--other than the basketball players, who were of necessity confined to their athletic uniforms.
PHOTO 8 (R): Here we have two couples ready to enter the gymnasium. The pair in front, spotlighted, F 9 and M 9, are quite formally attired. The gentleman is the one who is the contestant. Behind them are F 10 and M 10, rather in the shade but with their features quite visible.
Miss Marple hopes some of her readers will not only recognize the attractive young people in these photographs but also communicate that information as quickly as possible.

YourTrident yearbooks, particularly the later ones, include many impromptu photographs of unidentified persons engaged in various activities of a sporting, studious, meditative, celebratory, or even frolicking nature--all in good taste, of course. Some of these Mystery Peopleare shown below, with yearbooks and pagination given for each photograph.
If you recognizeyourself, ora fellow classmate or two in any one or more of these pictures, please help solve a mystery by promptly contacting one of these persons: Dave (at cnc6171@cox.net) or Jane (at cncmemories61_71@yahoo.com). Bob wrote that 3 of the 5 men (Elmore, Alto, & Deans), who were on the Cross Country Team, has just returned from a meet and "a function was going on at the College. The beverage is beer. I was 25, a Navy veteran & not the best influence for those younger guys. I was referred to as the GOM (grand ole man). This picture was taken in the fall of 1971."
Can anyone help us locate Ken Wall, Ed Elmore &/or Bill Alto? We have no contact info for these 3 men.
Mystery People, Group 1—64, Man with Coke Bottles—has finally been SOLVED. The student is Douglas E. Tillberg (FD 64) of Virginia Beach. Ken Smith (FD 64) recognized him. When contacted, Doug confirmed it is he and said he still has that slide rule he was holding. Asked about the math in the upper left corner of the photo, he wrote, "the formula is gibberish but still wrong. It should read 'fcn of x2 divided by fcn of y2 = sq. root of 2xy + epsilon – delta' where epsilon and delta are some variable." The math was added to the photo just to make it "look like I knew what I was talking about."
Mystery People, Group 1—69, Man with microscrope—has also been SOLVED. The student is Edward J. Barker (FD 72) of Lynchburg, recognized by Sheila Davis McClung (FD 70).Edhas verified that ID.

PHOTO 66: Laughing guy in tie. Apparently SOLVED. Both Kim Lassiter (FD 71) and Dalton Blankenship (FD 66 & 71) say this is Pete Carver (deceased).Dalton adds, "No doubt about that one. Knew him well."
PHOTO 66: Girl with guy's legs. Apparently SEMI-SOLVED by Dalton, as Sheila Gebhardt [later Breault, deceased in 2000]. "Sheila's loss was huge," wrote Dalton. "She was a Hampton High graduate from Norman's graduating class. That's why I'm sure it's her. We both knew her well." Norman is Dalton's husband, Norman Blankenship (FD 66). WHOSE LEGS are in this photo?
PHOTO 70: Man studying his cards. Kim Lassiter (FD 71) has identified him as Wayne Meisner. Wayne's wife of many decades, Beth Gallagher Meisner, died in 2011. We've asked Wayne to verify this photo.

PHOTO 71: Men at Chi Psi Omega Spring Rush. SOLVED. Kim Lassiter (71) recognized Kenny Flick "on the extreme left." Kenny (FD 72) has verified that and added, "The rest of the guys from my left are Jeff Trask, Clff Jackson, Dick Werstein, and in the center [back],Bill Davis. We wereall members of Chi Psi Omega Fraternity."
UPDATE - PHOTO 68: Girl tying hockey shoe. SOLVED. Kim Lassiter (FD 71) has identified her asCarolyn Watson, who, "transferred from CNC to ODU and majored in biology." Mystery People of 1968
by Miss Marple
This special edition of Mystery People features candid photos only from the 1968 Trident.Groups 1-4 of the mystery photos included no photos from that yearbook, because Miss Marple had no personal copy of it. Fortunately, Wade Williams (68 FD) has come to her rescue, providing his personal copy of the 1968 Trident for her use.
Miss Marple hopes that those of you previously not represented in the Mystery People features, and perhaps feeling personally offended by that omission, will now enjoy seeing yourselves and classmates in these 8 photos.
As always, all readers are invited to send identifications of Mystery People to cncmemories61_71@yahoo.com. Please identify photos by titles given here--e.g.: 68, Ladies learning archery.

MYSTERY PEOPLE OF 1968 FEEDBACK
From A.C. (Kit) Thomas (72) re: 68, Boxing Lesson--Center, Dicky Warthan (deceased).
From Curtiss Pittman (65) re: 65, Students hanging out on car--Sitting on car on left with glasses is Tom Lockard, who lives in Richmond,VA. Standing on right with glasses is Robert Smith. Tom, Robert and I were all in Mr. Riley’s Accounting Class.
From Wade Williams (68) re: 68, Male track stars : From left to right: Paul Smeltzer (Gramps), Wade Williams (The Iron Man), and John Dyksen (The Reverend).
Miss Marple adds: John Dyksen did become a United Methodist Church minister. Sadly, he died in 1995, at age 47, from lymphoma.
From Don Chaney (68) re: 68, boxinglesson--I believe it is Mark Hughes on the left wearing gloves and Jim Vititoe on the right observing (or coaching). Jim is now practicing law in California. http://www.vititoelawgroup.com.
Miss Marple adds:JimVititoe is a documented FD, but MarkHughes is not even on our Roster, alas! Can anybody help us find Mark?
Sheila Davis McClung (72) has identified 68, Girl with hockey stick as a photo of Diane Cooper. Like Sheila, Diane was one of the Miss CNC contestants shown in the 1968 Trident (p. 39).
WEBMASTER'S NOTE: It has been customary for us to include the photos associated with each feedback comment. However, since there is a "STATUS - MYSTERY PEOPLE " article below this article that includes these photos, we'll save some space and redundancy this time and refer you to the associated picture below.
Mary Ann Kearns Schoultz has identified herself in the 64 Mug Shots photo:
"Happily that is my only mug shot. I have no memory of that photo or even who is in it with me. Scary because I don't believe I've lost my mind yet. Thank you for contacting me.
Also, I moved from Newport News in 1970 and have lived in many states but now am back in Virginia. Please give my regards to Patty Lottinville. This is a lovely surprise and brings back many memories: alas not one of that picture."
Miss Marple adds: Anyone wanting to contact Mary Ann can do so by contacting Dr. Jane.
From Ray Pepe (AA, 65):
The "two male hitchhikers" look likeEugene Russell (front) andCharles Thacker (back), Their pictures are on pages 42 and 43 of the 65 yearbook. The "clowning woman" is definitely Sheila Gebhardt (those eyes and that smile). Her picture is on page 49 of the 65 yearbook.
Miss Marple adds, You're the third classmate to identify Sheila Gebhardt (later Breault) as the clown, Ray, so we can consider THAT mystery photo SOLVED! Thank you! Sheila taught at Gloria Dei Lutheran School in Hampton. Sadly, she died in January, 2000.
Does anyone know the whereabouts of Eugene Russell and/or Charles Thacker?
From Patty Lottinville Kipps (AA, 63):
In the 64 Trident Mug Shots, I'm sure the middle person is Mary AnnKearns. I believe she still lives in Newport News, under another name, of course. I went to high school with her for 3 years.
Miss Marple adds, You're the 3rd one to say it's Mary Ann, Patty. Her married name is Schoultz and she lives now in Potomac Falls, VA. We'll ask her to verify the photo.
Bob Davis (BS, 73) writes that "66, Clowning woman is my old friend Sheila Gebhardt; she died about 10 years ago."
Identifications fromCurtiss Pittman (attended 9/63 to 6/65): 64, Biology Class:Judy Fuller on left, Ed Fitzsimmons, blond hair, on right. 65 Hootenanny:Brent Musgrove on left in sweater.
The Case of the 1966 Clowning Woman isSOLVED.Larry Dobie(AA, 66) is the fourth FD to recognize her as Sheila Gebhardt Breault, who unfortunately died in 2000. Larry wrote of Sheila: "She is one of the young women I had a crush on when I was a young man attending CNC. Sorry to hear of her passing. That sort of news is one of the worst parts of being alive and growing old."
First Decader Sandra Godwin Hundley (BA, 71) identified the 69Woman overloaded with Books (Group 3) asWilma Riden.
FD Wilma Riden Moore (AA, 70; BS, 72) responded, "Sandy is correct! She has a good memory! We worked on the TRIDENT together."
Decader Joe Hutchko (BS, 74) writes:
In the mystery picture labeled as 66 Christmas Ball Dancers the guy to the extreme right in the picture is Don Lake, who was the President of the Circle K Club that year. I understand Don is deceased now?
P. S. Keep up the good work!
Yes, sadly, Don is deceased. Thanks for the website compliment.
First Decader Ray Pepe (AA, 65) has identified these Mystery People:
Two of the people in the '64 Mug Shots picture in Group Three are Charles Burcher on the left and Mary Kearns in the center. They both have Sophomore Class pictures in the 64 yearbook.
Decader Bob Fulgham (BA, Summer, 71) writes re: #654321 in 64 Mug Shots:
I believe this is one of the Kearns sisters. I went to St. Vincent's with them.
About #809876 in the 64 Mug Shots, 64 Decader Corky Brooks writes :
The 3rd person in the photo with Chuck Burcher is Jeff Page. corky brooks
Regarding the Mystery People, Camille Krone White (66 Decader) has written: From Group 1, the "66 Clowning Woman" was Sheila Gebhardt. From Group 2 the "Woman in Lab" looks a little like Arnita Woodson. I was on the 1966 Trident staff. Never thought 46 years later we might not recognize people in those photos!
Miss Marple adds: Alas, Camille, the "Woman in Lab" photo is from the 1972 TRIDENT, so she cannot be Arnita Woodson (now Hallman). Arnita IS in a lab photo in the 1966 TRIDENT (p. 31) which was published on the cover of the MEMORIES book and also in the Chemistry essay there. Still unidentified is the other woman (darker hair) in that photo. Do you know her?
First Decader Bob Hines (AA, 69 & BA, 72) has identified 2 people in the first group of MYSTERY PEOPLE:
Dave, I think the "woman with 2 men" is Diane Parrish. Not positive, but pretty sure. I graduated with her from NNHS in spring, 1966.
Also, I am positive that the guy in the forefront of the picture of "men drinking" is Pat Giguere. He graduated from Peninsula Catholic. I'm not sure what year, but 67 or 68, I think. He had a sister, Janet, who also went to CNC. Pat went into the Marines after graduation. He was one of the few casualties of the Grenada invasion. I think his wife was pregnant with their only child.
Bob Hines
Does anyone know the whereabouts of Diane Parrish, so that we can locate her?
First Decader Herminio Cuervo (AA, 66) has identified 3 of the 4 "men playing bridge" ( MYSTERY Group 2) as follows:
David Ahearn, Perry Depue, Mr. Paxton and can’t remember the other guy (clockwise from 1200).
Can anyone identify the 4th man (on the left)?
Herminio also says that, in Group 2,
the girl doing gymnastics is jumping the side horse, not a balance beam.
Miss Marple confesses she has scant knowledge of gymnastics equipment.
Decader Allen C. (Kit) Thomas (BA, 72) has identified the Woman Folk Songer (Group 3, 65) as "Tracy Kearns from Williamsburg."
Does anybody know where Tracy Kearns is now?
Regarding that controversal 66 photo "Woman with 2 men," 66 Decader Les Pendleton writes:That is me in the center. My sister, Eileene is on the left and I can't remember the name of the guy in the tophat. Please continue your efforts on the site and newsletter.
We must assume Les recognizes his own sister, so the lady is not Dianne Parrish Bartlett.
Miss Marple adds:The top-hatted man in this photo (to the right) is identified there asTommie McKinley. Kim Lassiter writes that Tommie is NOT the top-hatted man in the 1966 photo (second photo down to the right), with the woman (now identified as Diane Parrish Bartlett), but is Pete Carver (not Porter). Kim also says, "The blonde guy is Les Pendleton" in that photo.
Does anyone know the whereabouts of Tommie McKinley?
Webmaster's Comment: ...but they both must shop at the same store!!!
Kim Lassiter (BA, 71) has identified more MYSTERY PEOPLE for us:
If I am not mistaken, the man with the top hat (Group 1, 66) is Pete Porter. He was, I believe, from Gloucester and was killed in a traffic accident in 1969? The other man lived two blocks from campus and drove a 1957 T-Bird followed by a 1967 Mustang fastback, but I can't remember his name. I will look for a labeled picture this weekend.
The woman with the wild hair is Janet Owen (Group 2, 66). She lived on Harpersville Rd. and went to Warwick HS. Janet transferred to Campbell college in 1967 and married a realtor from that area.
Does anyone know where Janet Owen is now?
First Decader Audrey Newman Dalli wrote:
In the photo "Ron Stewart Coaching Actors" the two students are Richard Osborne and Audrey Newman (me!- now Audrey Newman Dalli, living in Massachusetts). I was one , if not the first, to receive a degree in fine and performing arts at CNU. The arts program began my second year, and I switched from French to acting! A small group of us began the The CNC players my first semester there. Ron Stewart was my advisor and has remained my dear friend ever since.
Thanks for all your interest and work on this site. It is fun to read and remember.
Does anyone know where Richard Osborne is now?
Name correction from Carolyn Cocke Stallings (72) re: barefoot woman in jeans (70 Trident, p. 9): "Robin Shakshober's married name is SELBY, not Shelby."
Tim Hester (70 & 71) thinks that the man in the laughing couple in leaves photo (Group 2, 1970 Trident) is William N. (Mac) McGlaun and that the woman is Ann somebody. Can anyone help us further with this photo ID?
From William N. (Mac) McGlaun (70 & 72), re: laughing couple in leaves:
Regrettably, it is not I in the photo although I can see why Tim would think so--quite a resemblance. I do remember the gal in the photo. I'm not absolutely certain but I think her name is Ann Brand. I'll try to remember to look it up and let you know IF it is different.
Does anyone else think this isAnn Brand in the photo? Does anyone know where she is now?
From Carolyn Cocke Stallings (72): "69,Man Dozing in Chairreminds me of Carlton (Kip) Gordon (on p. 46 in the 1970 Trident)."
Suzanne Hula Ricks(70) has verified that she is the woman in t-shirt and shorts (70 Trident, p. 33).
From Pam Vaughan(72) re: the photoWinter Formal Couple (72 Trident, p. 32): "Julie Mee may be the girl."
We are awaiting a reply from Julie Mee Sager.
From Julie Mee Sager (AA, 71 & BA, 72) re: Winter Formal Couple (1972 Trident, p. 32): "Sorry - that is NOT me and I don't recognize either one of the folks!"
From Curtiss Pittman (65) re: 1966,Men playing Bridge. The one facing in white with pen in pocket is Bud Wren. If not , it’s his twin. We were in Circle K 1964-1965.
Does anyone know where Bud Wren is now?
From Greg Breault (BA, 71) re : 71, Chi Psi Omega Rush Party (Group 4):
"The person to the far left is Mike Plott (now deceased), the person next to him with the mustache and sideburns is myself (Greg Breault-class of ’71), the person directly behind me I believe is Robert Jones, the person standing next to Robert with the beard I believe is Roman Schennkkan and the person to the far right is Doug Duncan. Hope this helps."
Many thanks, Greg! Can anyone help us locate Robert Lee Jones?
From Lucy Beahm Hines (BA, 74) re:Group 4, 69, Friends drinking Cokes: "left to right: Wills Lee, (I think Patty Berkey), J.D. Clark."
Yes, Lucy, the cups read "Coke," but who can say if that's what they were drinking?
We need Patty Berkey English to verify that she is the woman in this photo.
Do you mean John D. Clark III, or J.D. (Dan) Clark, editor of the 1968 yearbook? We've not been able to locate the latter.
If "Wills Lee" is Beverly W. Lee, Jr., he's on our missing list. Does any know where he is?
From Dr. David Game re: 71, Chi Psi Omega spring rush # 1:
"I know the person on the left: Mike Plott. Graduated from Warwick High in 1968. Passed away in summer 2010 (roughly). Jane I really appreciate your work. Even though I didn't arrive at CNU(C) until 1978, it is interesting to see the history."
David is Assoc. Prof. of Physics, Comp. Sci., & Engr.We welcome "Second Decader"alumni and faculty to our website.
From Brenda Burnette Tagge(AA, 69) re:70, Woman in small locker: "I really enjoyed the picture of Kathy Digan in the gym locker. I remember the day she posed for it."
Alicia Herr (BS, 71) has verified that she took this photograph. Sadly, Kathy (AA, 71 & BA, 72) died from a cancerous brain tumor in 2004.
Ginger Graef Smith(66) wrote toTom Oxner (67) re: Group 4,66, Studious students in the library, " Are you the one in the middle? ... Studious students...little did we know at the age of 18-19."
Tom responded, "Yes, that appears to be me. It is ironic that I was photographed in the library- at that point in my academic career, I did not spend a great deal of time in the Library. I spent a great deal of time in the library at Campbell and the University of Georgia. BTW, the guy in the left of the photo is Raleigh Ingram. I do not know where he is now."
Raleigh Ingram is on our MISSING LIST. Can anyone help us find him?
Does anyone know the identity of the woman in this picture?
From Al Reeder (BA, 71): "In reference to Mystery People Group 4: The'71 couple relaxing on the lawn arePriscilla Seawell and Bob Mahan; the '70 peekaboo people look like Dr. Cones and Dr. Pugh. Hope this helps. By the way -- love your e-mails and updates!"
Thanks, Al, for both your detective work and your kind words. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Priscilla Seawell and/or Bob Mahan? Neither is on our FD Roster.
A.C. (Kit) Thomas (BA, 72) and Dalton Kelley Blankenship (AA, 71 & BS, 85) agreewithAl Reeder (BA, 71) that the person on the right in photo72, Peekaboo People, is Dr. Jean Pugh.
That is correct, and yes, Al, the person on the left is indeed Dr. Harold Cones. Miss Marple declares this photo SOLVED!
From Jim Lowell (BS, 72): "The graduate with long blond hair in the 72, Solemn Graduates photo is Marilyn McCabe, a classmate of mine, [who] received a BA in psychology."
Marilyn Carole McCabe is on our MISSING list. Can anyone help us find her?
From Kim Lassiter (71 FD) re: Woman in68, Kitten in sweater : looks like either Bridget or Karen Doty (I'm not sure which).
Miss Marpleadds:Can anyone help us locate eitherBridget Doty or Karen Doty?
Steve Franklin (71 & 72 FD), however, thinks: she looks more like Carolyn Cocke!
From Larry Elmore (69 FD) re : KarenDoty: At some point I dated Karenso I recognized her with the kitten. So using Google I searched for her and found her picture [through Ohio Ladies Gallery] in the Ohio legislature. This is her. I'm now looking to see if I can find her sister Bridget. Thanks for all you do. This CNC undertaking has been a great adventure.
UPDATE: With Larry Elmore's help, Miss Marple found Karen Doty, now retired, living in Norfolk, and her sister Brigid Doty Gallaer, living in Hampton. Karen definitely plans to attend our Sept. 30th PICNIC and we hope Brigid will also.
Mysteries Solved and Unsolved: 1964-69
by Miss Marple
Beginning March 16, three groups of Mystery People photographs (12 pictures per group) have been posted here: a total of 36 photographs of unidentified persons, taken fromTrident yearbooks dating from 1964 through 1972. Readers were asked to identify the people in these pictures, and responses have been posted here.
Now, slightly over a month since Group 1 appeared, it seems appropriate to report which mysteries have been solved (totally, partly, or possibly) and which remain unsolved (alas, (the largest number). Unsolved means no one at all has offered even a guess.
It is requested that, after perusing this report, readers give the challenge another go, by clicking Website Archives (9th TAB in the left column) and then subtab Mystery People. We look forward to seeing more Solved Mysteries very soon! Send your comments to either cnc6171@cox.net or cncmemories61_71@yahoo.com. They will be published in Your Feedback.
Photos definitely solved will be moved to the appropriate School Pictures subtab. A Mystery Photo is consideredsolved fullywhen indentifications are verified by either (a) the actual person(s) in the picture or (b) a reasonable number of viewers agreeing about the name(s) submitted by readers.

Mystery People: Cases Closed...So Far
by Miss Marple
Thanks to the help of some of you First Decaders, theMysteryPeople in the 6 photos below have been identified, so these 6 cases are closed. These photos will now be moved to the appropriate sections of our website's School Pictures, along with their identifying captions.
Next week we will publish more readers' identifications of photos (especially those from the 1969-72 Tridents) and begin an all new collection of Mystery People photos. We hope you'll help us solve those mysteries also.

Mystery People: More Cases
Solved or Semi-Solved (Part 1)
by Miss Marple
Miss Marple especially thanks the following First Decaders for identifying the Mystery People in these 1969-72 Trident photos: Dave Bessom (71), Carolyn Cocke Stallings (72), Tim Hester (71), Bob Hines (72) and Pam Vaughan (72).
Regarding the man hanging out in the gym (right), CarolynCocke Stallings wrote: "This picture was on the FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION page (p. 13) in the Trident. There can only be one man who fits this description: long legs and arms, dark hair and crew cut: our illustrious Coach Beverley Vaughan." Miss Marple confesses that she knew that--just wanted to see if anyone else would know. This photo is one of four candid photos made for that yearbook by Harold H. Walker(71). This solved photo will now be moved to School Pictures, 1970 & 71 (6th Tab in left column).
Coach Bev Vaughan. 1970 Trident, p.13.
Bob Jones, 1971 Trident, p. 57.
L-R: Sandy McNair and Adele Brown. 1970 Trident, p.33.
The left photo above (happy couple; 1969 Trident, p. 31) is semi-solved. Both Dave Bessom and Tim Hester are rather sure the woman is Louise Christofi. Dave wrote that Louise and her family "lived on Cedar Lane in Newport News. My father bought their house on 55th Street in Newport News." He also thinks the man is Brian Hatcher. "Ran into him in the Army in '71," Dave wrote.Tim recalled him as Brian H.Can anybody else confirm these two identities? Does anyone know where Brian Hatcher is now?
The subject of the middle photo (pie-faced man; 1971 Trident, p. 57) has been identified by Carolyn Cocke Stallings, Dave Bessom, Bob Hines and PamVaughan as Bob Jones (Robert Lee Jones), who is, unfortunately, on our Missing list. Bob Hines checked the yearbook and wrote:"Look at the 1971 SGA officers picture. Notice the fraternity jacket that Jones is wearing. It is the same jacket...Also, look at the full head of dark hair (that some of us used to have). And of course, the resemblance in the face." Miss Marple declares his case now solved. It too will be moved to SchoolPictures, 1970 & 71.
Carolyn wrote that the third photo (girls hugging, 1970 Trident, p. 33) is of (L-R) SandyMcNair and AdeleBrown, who "both played on the women's basketball team"--as did Carolyn. Other former players, Pam Vaughan and Alicia Herr--plus their former coach,Dr. Mary Lu Royall--agree with Carolyn, so this photo too is solved. Sandy and Adele are both on our Missing list, however. Does anyone know their whereabouts now?
(To Be Continued)
Mystery People: More Cases Solved
or Semi-Solved (Part 2)
by Miss Marple
Here are 4 more photos with some Mystery People identified. Miss Marple thanks super sleuths Carolyn Cocke Stallings (72) and Pam Vaughan (72) for their extraordinary work and also thanks others mentioned below for their assistance.
Pam Vaughan was the fourth person in several months to identify the man in the forefront of the picture to the right (men drinking) as John Patrick (Pat) Giguere (72), who was, very sadly, killed in action in Grenada in 1983 while piloting a Marine light attack helicopter. If you type his name into Google, you will find a wealth of information about his heroic military service and death. Pam also thinks that the 4 men in a row behind Pat are (L-R) Ken Wall, Ed Elmore, Greg Donner, and Gaylon Ryan.Does anyone know where any of these 4 are now? If so, please contact cncmemories61_71@yahoo.com.
Pat Giguere (foreground) with buddies. 1972 Trident, p. 12.
(R) Steve Franklin (in skirt) & (L) Arnold Trahan (?).1970 Trident, p.40.
(
Carolyn and Pam both believe the woman in this first picture above (barefoot woman in jeans; 1970 Trident, p. 9) is Robin Shakshober (now Shelby Selby), who lives in Richmond. We need more people to verify that, or Robin herself to confirm it. Does anyone know how to contact Robin?
After both Carolyn and Pam identified the man in that skirt and wig as Stephen Franklin (men horsing around; 1970 Trident, p. 40), Miss Marple contacted Stephen himself, who wrote, "Yes, that is me, the one with the wig and the plaid skirt at a Halloween party," so this case is semi-solved. Stephen thinks the other man might be Arnold Trahan, but he's not sure. Is it Arnold? If not, then who?
Our lady sleuths also agreed that the woman in t-shirt and shorts (1970 Trident, p. 33) is Suzanne Hula (now Ricks), who played basketball at CNC. That identification has now been verified by Suzanne's former coach, Dr. Mary Lu Royall, and teammate Alicia Herr, who wrote, "I took that picture." Miss Marple considers this photo solved. It will be moved to the School Pictures tab, subtab 1970 & 1971. Alicia also took the picture of basketball teammates Sandy McNair and Adele Brown, identified in Part 1last week.
